Christianity and the Corona Virus

It is safe for me to assume that a lot of our college careers have been cut short from in-person classes and on-campus housing, to online school. It may be for some time or the whole semester, but not a lot of us are able to be on our college campuses right now.

I struggled with this a lot and found out 2 ugly truths about myself:
1) I take a lot of things for granted
2) I am very selfish

It's true that I never realized what I took for granted until its gone. My relationships like my best friends and being able to see them every day. Seeing my professors and being able to ask them questions in person. Places like my comfy dorm room. The coffee house. The gym. My on campus job.

I've discovered a new deep appreciation for all these relationships and places and opportunities and have learned that everything I love could be taken away in an instant.

I've also realized I've done more complaining and wallowing in sadness in this season then any other time in my life. I've sat crying about how unfair it is to not see my friends and have to stay home. I then realized that I've been away from my family whom I love and now get to spend the rest of the semester home with them making memories and getting to grow in our family relationship.

Its a daily choice to be positive and optimistic of the situation a lot of us are in right now. As Christians, it's a blessing to be able to use this time to be there for our communities, serve, pray, and love those around us. It's an amazing time to share the hope of Christ with those who are scared and lost and may be wondering about panic and death.

Here's what the Bible has to say- a passage I've been committing to memory and my church has been preaching on:

Philippians 4:4-7: "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be made known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus".

I pray to not be filled with anxiety during this hard time but rather be joyful and rejoice that God holds the future and is not at all surprised by this virus. I'm thankful for the lessons I have learned so far and that there is a new season in life ahead to learn from.

In the meantime, while you all are doing college courses online and at home in quarantine, here are some activities that could conquer boredom:

Love this! I have reached out to neighbors and to one friend who is struggling with her lockdown. She is very anxious and has found hope and encouragement from my daily texts, calls and daily Bible verses I send to her. Make sure you are taking care of yourself so you can care for others.

Your post is SO encouraging to me! It’s not often someone in your age group can be so discerning and dispel such wisdom. I appreciate your pointing to truth. I love that you are taking what seems a worrisome situation and using it for positive. I believe God wants us to spend more time connecting with our loved ones and being more intentional in our relationships. Perhaps this is one way He is using to get our attention. We must keep our focus on Him, His sovereignty and Truth. He will see us through this time!
